Twin appointments herald growth for Corporate Strategies

Business turnaround specialists Corporate Strategies has made two key appointments as part of a strategic growth programme.

Director Stephen Fern was recruited from international accountancy and advisory firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, following a two year secondment to the firm's office in Brisbane, Australia.

Richard Miller joins Corporate Strategies as a turnaround administrator from DTE Leonard Curtis, a UK top 10 corporate recovery practice.

The two appointments follow the departure of director Steve Clancy and are part of a continuing recruitment programme as Corporate Strategies' expands its teams in Manchester, London and Birmingham.

Stephen Fern, aged 28, will specialise in the rescheduling of tax arrears payments for struggling companies, as well as providing turnaround advice and building relationships with clients, lenders and accountants. He will have an additional remit to grow the Corporate Strategies division across the country.

In Brisbane, he was responsible for running audit engagements for national and multinational clients with turnovers of up to $600m, including Flight Centre Plc, New Hope Coal, Vanglobe Holdings, Twin Disc and Mack Trucks.

Previously, Stephen qualified as a chartered accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers' Manchester office after taking a degree in accounting & management control at Sheffield Hallam University. Born in California, he now lives in Rochdale. Stephen is an active sportsman with interests in local cricket and football clubs and is a UEFA B qualified football coach.

Richard Miller, aged 27, will work alongside Stephen in restructuring tax arrears and carrying out turnaround assignments. Richard joined DTE in 1999 and worked for 2 years in its business advisory service, audting a range of small to large companies.

In 2002, he joined the Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Department handling both personal insolvency and corporate recovery assignments.  Richard obtained a GNVQ in advanced business studies and achieved his AAT qualification in 2002.  He is currently completing further accountancy training.
